COSMETIC ENHANCEMENT · HAWTHORN, MELBOURNE
ABOUT TEAR TROUGHS
The tear troughs are the grooves that run from the inner corner of the eye towards the cheek. Under eye hollows and shadows are something many people notice, and they can have different causes, so each one is approached a little differently.
The skin around the eyes is thin and sits close to important structures. Of all our cosmetic enhancement treatments, this is the one where we spend the most time on assessment, looking at the area, your whole face and your health history before recommending anything.
Before every treatment, we confirm that tear trough treatment is the right approach for you. If another option would work better for your concern, such as skin focused care, we will say so.
HOW WE CAN HELP
Under eye shadows vary from person to person. These are the concerns we are asked about most often, and how we approach each one.
A hollow or groove beneath the eye can cast a shadow that makes you look tired. Treatment can help soften the look of the hollow and the shadow it creates.
Shadows created by the shape beneath the eye often respond well. Where darker colour comes from pigment or thin skin, a skin treatment can complement tear trough treatment.
Sometimes the shadow comes from how the under eye area meets the cheek, which makes it as much about facial volume and definition through the mid face as the eye area itself.
Fine lines and texture under the eyes often respond well to skin focused care, which can complement tear trough treatment.
The Process
Because the under eye is so delicate, each step is unhurried.
At our Hawthorn clinic, we begin by talking through what you see under your eyes. We then assess the under eye closely and explain what is likely causing the look, as far as we can tell. Hollows, pigment and crepey texture each have their own approach, and skin treatments that target tone and texture are often part of the plan.
If treatment is right for you, we explain what it involves, the risks specific to this area and what to expect. If another approach would serve you better, we will say so.
Chantallè performs tear trough treatment herself, working slowly and precisely and checking in with you throughout.
Before you leave, we go through your aftercare and explain how the area is likely to look over the next few days.
We see you again about [X weeks] later to review how the area has settled and whether anything needs refining.

Risks to know about: Tear trough treatment carries risk, as all cosmetic procedures do, and the delicate skin under the eyes has some risks of its own. Common short-term effects include swelling, bruising and tenderness. Less common risks include infection, allergic reaction and uneven results, and rarely, complications can be serious and need further treatment. We take you through each of these in detail before you decide.
BEFORE AND AFTER
The skin under the eyes bruises more easily than most, so preparation matters here. If you have an event coming up, book at least [X weeks] ahead so any bruising has time to fade.

Tear trough treatment is suitable for many people with under eye hollows and shadows. We assess the area carefully at your consultation and will recommend an alternative if we believe it would suit you better.
It can be. Lines around the eyes are a separate concern from hollows beneath them, and lines and wrinkles treatment focuses on how those lines look when you smile or squint. We map out the timing so each treatment supports the last.
